About Me

Hello... I'm Jane Catling MCFHP MAFHP (Hanby)
I've been working as a Foot Health Professional for over 10 years. After training at the prestigious SMAE Institute in Maidenhead, I acquired from my Mum an established business that had already been running for over 25 years.

I also offer Ear Wax Removal using Microsuction (inserting a small suction tip to remove the wax) or Water Irrigation (pumping water into the ear pushing out the wax).

Foot Health

Over 10 years experience of caring for your feet.

Foot problems are very common, and can affect all ages. From corns, calluses, and ingrown toenails, to fungal nail and skin conditions, what may appear as something small and insignificant can pose great difficulties with daily activities such as walking and exercise. Other health issues such as Diabetes, Arthritis and poor circulation may cause foot problems but with regular care, complications can be reduced.

Using my extensive knowledge, professional approach and wide experience, I can help alleviate pain, improve the appearance and help to maintain the health of your feet.

Your feet are important to me - whether you are suffering with pain caused by a corn or are feeling self conscious about thickened nails or cracked heels, or perhaps you simply find it difficult to reach your own feet, I can help with it all.

My goal is to improve and maintain the condition of your feet and your general wellbeing through good foot health care. Contact me today to arrange an appointment - your first appointment includes a medical history and foot health assessment. Please have a list of any medication you are taking to hand.

Foot Health - FAQ

• Corns and callus are hard, thcieked layers of skin that develop when your skin is trying to protect itself against friction or pressure.
• Corns are smaller and often have a hard centre. They are often described as feeling like you're standing on a stone.
• Callus can be painful and often develop on the soles of your feet.

• Verrucas are on the feet, warts elsewhere (usually the hands!) Verruca Pedis (VP) is a harmless skin lesion caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
• When appearing on the weightbearing surface they can be quite painful and have overlying callus. There are several treatments available, however Verrucae can be very challenging to treat.

• Athletes Foot (Tinia Pedis) is a fungal skin infection that can occur in any age, with or without high levels of activity. Fungi thrive in warm, closed and moist environments (cosy socks and shoes) and is often the initial cause of fungal nail infections.

Ear Wax Removal

What is Ear Wax?
Ear wax (Cerumen) is a substance secreted into the ear canal to act as a layer of protection for the ear canal, and assist with cleaning and lubrication. It also provides protection against infection, bacteria and water. It’s healthy to have some ear wax and only becomes a problem if a build up occurs.

Symptoms of earwax build-up include:
• Hearing loss
• Earache or a feeling that your ears are blocked
• Ringing or buzzing in your ears (tinnitus)
• Vertigo (feeling dizzy and sick)

Naturally, your body cleans your ears for you so no routine maintenance is required. However, if your body produces too much earwax, you may experience problems with your hearing. If this happens, it’s important to get it checked out right away to prevent further issues to your ear health.

What is Microsuction?
Microsuction is the term used for cleaning ear canals using the magnified view of a surgical microscope and a tiny vacuum cleaner and/or tiny instruments.

Microsuction is a safe and effective process of removing excess wax. The procedure is ideal for old and young alike, whether someone has a hearing problem or not. Microsuction is suitable where somebody has a history of perforated eardrums, or has previously undergone ear surgery as there is no pressure on the ear structures.

What is Water Irrigation
Water irrigation is the method of ear wax removal mostly used by primary health care facilities – though funding for this service in GP surgeries is slowly being withdrawn.

Similar to traditional ear syringing, water irrigation consists of a jet of water being used to flush wax, debris or foreign bodies out of the ear canal. It can be performed by any trained healthcare or hearing care professional.

Water irrigation aims for a similar conclusion to water syringing but the irrigator tool controls the flow and temperature of the water for a precise procedure. Additionally, the water is aimed at the wall to avoid the eardrum as much as possible.

Ear Health - FAQ

• Cerumen (Ear Wax) is a substance secreted into the ear canal to protect, and assist with cleaning and lubrication. It provides protection against infection, bacteria and water.
• It's healthy to have some ear wax and is only a problem if a build up occurs.

• There isn’t a set recommended frequency for earwax removal, as it depends on each individual case. Some people don’t require earwax removal very often, whereas others produce vast amounts of earwax at a faster rate. If you’re concerned about the amount of earwax you are producing, or would like to find out more about how often you should clean out your ears, get in touch

• If the ear has healed entirely post surgery, micro suction is perfectly safe.

• No preparation is required. However it is recommended to use Olive Oil based ear drops (Earol) for a couple of days prior. Always follow the instruction leaflet.
